GOLD OR PLATINUM · PERSONAL VALUE CALCULATOR

Amex Gold vs Platinum Netherlands: Value Calculator

Compare Amex Gold and Platinum costs, lounge access, Privium, travel insurance, dining and hotel benefits for a Netherlands household.

EVIDENCE AND SCOPE

This is an interactive estimate of personal annual value, not an Amex calculation. Card benefits come from official terms; your inputs determine the result.

Temporary sign-up bonuses are excluded from recurring annual value. Check current card terms before applying; this is not financial advice.

QUICK ANSWER

Is Amex Platinum worth it—and when is Gold the better fit?

That depends on the Amex Platinum costs you can recover through benefits you would genuinely buy. Amex lists Privium Plus for the main Platinum cardholder and Privium Partner for an eligible extra Platinum cardholder, while Gold includes four Priority Pass entries but no listed Privium membership. Count each benefit only if you would otherwise pay for it; if you travel infrequently, Gold—or neither card—can cost less overall.

Three worked examples: which costs do your trips actually cover?

Illustrative households, not customer results or a population average. These examples use the same calculation as the tool above. No welcome bonus, insurance, hotel benefit or unused benefit is counted.

Fees checked on 13 September 2026: Platinum €75/month for new applications, plus €10/month for an extra Platinum card; Gold €20/month. The examples use 12 months at these rates, not a personalised quote. Existing cardholders should select the fee that applies to their own contract.

HONEST DECISION

When not applying is the better outcome

The calculator is designed to say no as clearly as yes. A premium card is usually a weak fit if you travel rarely, would not otherwise pay for its benefits, already hold overlapping insurance, or need a card that is accepted almost everywhere.

METHOD

How this estimate works

The calculator separates population benchmarks, Amex comparison values and your own likely use. Lounge membership and per-entry prices are alternatives, hotel and Privium value require explicit use assumptions, supplementary-card fees are included, and Gold lounge entries are capped at four. No input values are sent to analytics.
